Relocation

Hello all!

For various reasons, mostly related to convenience, I have relocated my blog to Blogger. It can be found at this address:  http://farbeyondtheclouds.blogspot.com/

And I will be leaving my WordPress blog up, so that I don’t loose everyone altogether.

So, for the last time on this blog….

Movie `Review: Fiddler on the Roof

This week, as requested a long time ago, I am working on Fiddler on the Roof. But this week I’m doing something different. I going to write a review on the movie.

Fiddler on the Roof is the story of the small village in Russia, called Anatevka, where the Hassidim and Russians live ‘peacefully’ side by side. But the village is anything but peaceful. There’s Yenta, the not-so-talented Matchmaker and town gossip, and Lazer Wolf, elderly bachelor, and butcher.

But the story centers on Tevye, the father of five daughters, and his attempts to maintain his family and Jewish religious traditions while outside influences encroach upon their lives. He must cope both with the strong-willed actions of his three older daughters—each one’s choice of husband moves further away from the customs of his faith—and with the edict of the Tsar that evicts the Jews from their village.

All together, it is a great movie. My family has enjoyed it for many years. The songs are very well written. My sisters and I have memorized many of them, including Tevye’s Dream. : )

Teen Court

The other night, I went with some friends to Teen Court as a master juror. Master Jury is basically like Grand Jury, except it is judged by teens. We judged several cases and afterwards, went out to dinner, all together. The larger Court is far more interesting, with lawyers, a judge, and a full jury. But for summer, I still enjoyed having Master Jury. Here are some pics of our night:

Yep…more dancing!

Soo, the other night I went dancing (again) with a bunch of friends. We had a blast. To begin the night, we went over to a friend’s house to begin our primping and curling. Tea, cookies, and chocolate covered strawberries added to our fun. The poor guys. All they got to do was watch The Avengers at someone else’s house, lol.

After we finished all of that business, we slid into the girl’s ‘limo’ and crossed town to where the guys were. As soon as we got there, we were given button bracelets, made by one of our friend’s grandmothers. All the girls got one to match their outfit.

Then we all went out back for pictures.

From there, we left and made the hour-long drive to our destination. I haven’t  heard so many consecutive corny song in a long time. : )

We ate dinner and then made our way to a church where the dance was being hosted. The first dance was the cha-cha. As is our custom, I danced the first dance with Nathan. (Nathan insisted on wearing his kilt.)

After that, there were various dances and steps. The Tango, the Waltz, the Levi Jackson rag, the Virginia reel, the Southwind, and others. Before each dance, the instructor would teach the dance to those of us who didn’t know it.

Why do they all do that?

Even though it was three hours long, we all were sad when the dance ended. It seems like we never get enough dancing. Our group all got swept out the door for pictures in the lobby.

After that, we took a trip to Braum’s for ice cream. Nathan ate whatever ice cream was handed to him. A lot of leftovers where consumed that way. I also tried ice cream with french fries for the first time. It isn’t as gross as it sounds. It tasted okay.

After that, since the earlier dancing was not enough, we danced in the parking lot, two Levi Jacksons and a reel. On the way home, we raced the boys car down the freeway (and won), performed the Chinese fire drill about a hundred times, and blared music out the windows. All in all, we had a great time. I’d do it again in a heartbeat.

My skirt

So lately I felt like making something. And I felt like being feminine. So I made a skirt I’ve dreamed of making for a long time. I made it with four yards of navy-blue-silk-like fabric. It has six gores, and six insets, for unmatched volume. I really love it, if you can’t already tell.

Costume of the week: Anne of Green Gables

Yay! Another costume of the week! Or of the last two months. Oh dear! Well, this one is from a wonderful movie, or three, Anne of Green Gables! Thumbs up, everybody! Here we go. I’m choosing two favorites from each of the two (good) movies.

Anne of Green Gables:

White Sands recitation dress:

Anne of Avonlea:

School teacher look:

Dianna’s going away dress:

And a last picture to set off the others:

Aren’t they adorable?! BTW, it was VERY painful not choosing all the costumes! Let me know in a comment whether next week’s costume should be from The Sound of Music or The Fiddler on the Roof

Au Revoir!

Costume of the week: Eowen

Hey! I’m sooo bad! I haven’t posted anything in a really long time! I’ll make up for it with a commentary. This week’s costume isn’t a single one at all. I’m doing three. This is going to be difficult. Here we go…

Eowen’s white gown:

I love the billowing of this gown. White on gold is a fantastic combination! In the lower picture we get a glimpse of her footwear, which is rather rare. They are sturdy, yet rather elegant…..I’d even like to wear them myself!

Battle attire:

Her outfit is blatantly masculine, but how can she help it when she’s wearing guys clothes? The helmet is probably my favorite part about this costume. The metal work at the front is very cool looking. The sword is okay…not quite so long as I would’ve liked, but that’s just me.

Eowyn’s green dress:

belt detail:

This dress is so lovely! It reflects Eowyn’s glamorous  side. Dark green velvet, a gorgeous open collar, long, flowing sleeves…I do believe that it is my favorite dress that she wears…and that is saying a lot. The belt is so meticulous in it’s detail, almost like a compass rose.

As you can tell, I am a huge Eowyn fan. Come back soon for a glimpse of next week’s costume!

Au revoir!
