Movie `Review: Fiddler on the Roof

This week, as requested a long time ago, I am working on Fiddler on the Roof. But this week I’m doing something different. I going to write a review on the movie.

Fiddler on the Roof is the story of the small village in Russia, called Anatevka, where the Hassidim and Russians live ‘peacefully’ side by side. But the village is anything but peaceful. There’s Yenta, the not-so-talented Matchmaker and town gossip, and Lazer Wolf, elderly bachelor, and butcher.

But the story centers on Tevye, the father of five daughters, and his attempts to maintain his family and Jewish religious traditions while outside influences encroach upon their lives. He must cope both with the strong-willed actions of his three older daughters—each one’s choice of husband moves further away from the customs of his faith—and with the edict of the Tsar that evicts the Jews from their village.

All together, it is a great movie. My family has enjoyed it for many years. The songs are very well written. My sisters and I have memorized many of them, including Tevye’s Dream. : )
